The program at the 2023 Parliament of the World’s Religions brings together faith and religious leaders, academic and industry experts, and institutions and grassroots organizers committed to interfaith dialogue and action. Shoulder to Shoulder (S2S) will be leading a mini-Faith Over Fear workshop on Friday morning.
This interactive training will teach you Right To Be’s 5Ds of bystander intervention methodology. We’ll start by talking about the types of disrespect that Muslims and those who are perceived to be Muslim are facing right now — from microaggressions to violence — using a tool we call the “spectrum of disrespect.” You’ll learn what to look for and the positive impact that bystander intervention has on individuals and communities. We’ll talk through five strategies for intervention: distract, delegate, document, delay, and direct, and how to prioritize your safety while intervening.

Our team members, Cassandra Lawrence and Becca Tyvoll, will lead a mini-workshop on Tuesday afternoon July 11th in Baltimore, Maryland at the Episcopal Church’s All About Love: A Festival for the Jesus Movement. "Faith Over Fear: Countering Anti-Muslim Discrimination" 75 minute mini-workshop is designed for faith and community leaders who wish to more effectively and strategically address and prevent anti-Muslim discrimination in their communities.

This webinar will provide an opportunity to address the different levels of Islamophobia as well as highlight the toolkit, a collection of resources and proven best practices to empower communities and individuals to effectively counter and dismantle Islamophobia in its various forms. As a living document, the toolkit may be updated from time to time with new resources.
