The program at the 2023 Parliament of the World’s Religions brings together faith and religious leaders, academic and industry experts, and institutions and grassroots organizers committed to interfaith dialogue and action. On Friday August 18th at 10am, Shoulder to Shoulder (S2S) will be leading a mini-Faith Over Fear workshop with S2S staff members Becca Tyvoll and Cassandra Lawrence. They will be joined by S2S partners Kathryn Lohre (serves as Executive for Ecumenical and Inter-Religious Relations & Theological Discernment in the ELCA Office of the Presiding Bishop) and Hind Makki (an interfaith and anti-racism educator who serves at American Islamic College and the Institute for Social Policy and Understanding).
This “Faith Over Fear: Countering Anti-Muslim Discrimination” mini-workshop, is designed for faith and community leaders who wish to more effectively and strategically address and prevent anti-Muslim discrimination in their communities. Participants are offered a brief exploration of the complex issue of Islamophobia and anti-Muslim discrimination in the United States along with facts and data about the American Muslim community, and they gain practical messaging & communications tips and tools, and concrete ideas and engagement tactics to make change on this issue.
Registration is open and we’d love to see you! Cassandra Lawrence will be at the conference the entire week and she would love to connect with you. If you’re attending the Parliament email Cassandra to connect and learn about opportunities to meet up with other partners. Join us for the workshop and/or join us for a special Shoulder to Shoulder partners and friends gathering.
